The European Observatory for Plurilingualism (OEP), created in 2005 by civil society, aims to protect linguistic diversity and promote public policies that encourage cross-linguistic exchanges. It supports language learning and all public and private initiatives that promote plurilingualism.
The OEP has its own charter, the European Charter for Multilingualism, published in 2006 in 19 languages.
The OEP’s activities focus on five main areas:
– A website dedicated to documentation and communication on plurilingualism in Europe and worldwide.
– A bimonthly electronic newsletter.
– Book publishing and management of the Plurilinguisme collection.
– Organization of symposia and seminars, including the bi- or triennial Assises européennes du plurilinguisme.
– Participation in conferences and events
Plurilingual and intercultural education, from kindergarten to higher education, culture, business and European and international relations and institutions are the four main areas of activity.
